GENDER EQUITY, DYNAMICS IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIPAND OTHER CONTEMPORARY ISSUES

This chapter explored gender roles and leadership dynamics in tertiary educational
institutions in Nigeria with a view to establishing leadership perspectives of bothfemale and their male counterparts. Concepts of gender as well as leadershipdynamics were reviewed and emphasis placed on their modes of application in real
life situations. Further attempts were made to critically dissect the role playedbygender in the course of leadership as it relates to tertiary educational institutioninthe Nigerian society. The positions and contributions of female and maleinstitutional heads were considered peri passu with the former havinglessparticipation in leadership of such establishments. Some key suggestions wereraised as ways of addressing the gap identified in gender equity as it impacts thedistribution of leadership positions across genders in tertiary institutions in Nigeriato mitigating imbalance in the distribution of leadership roles.
